Important Things to Remember
- Sod has a shelf life! Once you get your sod lay it immediately. Also remember Water, Water, Water!!
- Before the sod delivery truck arrives: Your Minnesota yard should be raked and ready to go. Make sure any irrigation heads or boxes are clearly marked.
Sod Installation Step # 1
- Start to lay your sod along a straight line, for example, the edge of your driveway, house or sidewalk (or use a string line). Roll out sod along your chosen line, staggering each row like brickwork. Make sure the sod seams are tight but not overlapping. A sharp utility knife can be used to cut the sod. When sodding on a hill or slope use sod staples to hold sod in place. Becker Sod Farms, LLC has sod staples available; just contact us prior to delivery in Becker, Clear Lake, St Cloud, or Big Lake, MN.
Sod Installation Step # 2
- Water, Water, Water!! Start the water as you’re laying the sod. As soon as you have an area large enough to start a sprinkler do so. Move sprinklers often to get all newly laid sod wet. Then follow up by thoroughly soaking the sod all the way through. Check by lifting various corners of the sod to see if the soil underneath is wet. Be sure to water corners and narrow areas. Maintain watering everyday for approximately two to three weeks according to weather conditions. During hot and windy days increase watering amounts and frequency. Never allow sod to dry out until it is completely rooted.
